Welcome to Biggleswade Athletic Club!

** Sunday 28th February 2010 - History could be made at Bedford X Country. Come and be a part of it! **

We are a friendly, lively and supportive club that cater for juniors and seniors living in Biggleswade, Sandy, Potton and surrounding villages. We participate in running events (road races, cross country) and athletics (track and field) throughout the year as well as organising the popular Sandy 10 road race.

Whether you are a jogger looking for a running partner or an experienced athlete looking for competition, you are most welcome to join us! Just click Membership for details on how to join us and click here on how to find us. Our training schedules can be found on the Junior menu and Senior menu on the left. If you are an athlete interested in track and field, click Track Fees for details on Track Charges and how to obtain a Track Pass.

The Club was formed in 1950 to continue the activities of the Athletic and Grass Track Cycle Racing Meeting which had been held under the auspices of the old Biggleswade Horticultural Society from the early 1900’s. A brick Clubhouse was built at Fairfield Sports Ground on land belonging to Wells & Winch (formally Greene King - now ASDA), which was the garden of the old Royal Oak pub in Sun Street. Sadly, the building became unsafe and had to be demolished in 2000. The club now operates from Sandy Sports Centre where an all weather track has been laid, providing excellent training facilities. The track was formally opened on 22nd September 2005 by Olympic marathon runner Liz Yelling (pictured right).

The Power of 10 scheme was launched in July 2006, aimed at raising athletics standards in the UK all the way from clubs to the Olympic Games. It is a statistical step-ladder devised to inspire athletes – Seniors, Under 20s, Under 17s and Under 15s – to move through club, regional and national levels to international standards. Power of 10 is based on standards considered attainable in a particular season by the 10th-best athlete in the UK in every Olympic track and field event in all four age groups.

In September 2003, we were the first athletic club in the whole of the UK to be awarded Clubmark accreditation. This means we have demonstrated that the Club is able to offer young athletes a safe, effective and child friendly environment in which to train, along with a high level of coaching competence. This is a major landmark in the history of the Club since its inception in 1950. We continue to grow from strength to strength and many thanks to all members for their increasing support.
