Summer Training at Stratton

As from 2nd April training will commence every Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-30 pm, from under the pavillion Stratton School Field.   Indoor athletics will start again in the Autumn.

The Annual General Meeting, Tuesday 26th March 2002

The AGM of the Club was held at the Weatherly Centre.   15 members attended - two down on last year.
  •
  • All previous members of the committee were willing to stand again this year, along with the officers of the Club (see the "contact" section below, or the back page of the printed newsletter)
  •
  • It was agreed that it had been a very successful year for the Club particularly the number of lady runners that had now joined us - some excellent results had been achieved across all age groups and we look forward to another equally successful year.
  •
  • We have again decided to support the Chiltern and Boss Truck Cross Country Leagues, and the Southern Track league which will this year be extended to cover the ladies as well.
  •
  • It was resolved to maintain the annual subscriptions for 2003 at the present levels.

    World Indoor Championships 2003

It still a long way off but all the tickets for Birmingham for March 14-16th 2003 will soon be sold out.   It would be nice to be able to get a group booking for one or more of the days (Fri-Sun).   This is probably a once in a life-time opportunity to see the World's best in the UK.   Tickets are between £5 and £22.   See Ken (or the Club website) for further details.

    Members' Record Times

A few of you have sent in details of your record times - a good start, but more would be appreciated.

Queen's Jubilee Celebrations (Week of 2nd June)

We have attended a meeting with the Town Council representatives co-ordinating the JubileecCelebrations in the town, who have asked us to stage some races on the evening of 4th June - we have yet to decide whether to make these on the road or off-road events.   There are plenty of suitable footpaths around.   More details in the next newsletter.

    Vets Age Groups

Reading Road Runners, supported by Berkshire County AA, are looking into a possible change to the current rules relating to the age at which women would become veterans at the same age as men i.e. 40 years.   We are invited to make comments or support the proposal, so let us know what you think.

      NEWS   FOR   YOUNG   ATHLETES

For information on track and field events,
contact your coach or David Brown, Track and Field Manager (01767 600094)

    • Eastern Young Athletes League - our first fixture is at St Albans on 21st April.   We need a full team (well, as close as we can get ) of U13's , U15's and U17's.   Ken and David will be chasing you!   EVERYONE scores a point for the team.   If we can get anything like a full team we could be chasing promotion this year.
Club kit MUST be worn.   It is available from Sportscene in Biggleswade though Ken has some small sizes.

    • Help!   We have said it before but it is still true - we are desperately short of qualified coaches and helpers for Tuesday/Thursday evenings.   If you can spare any time at all, even if it is only a couple of times a season, David or Ken will be very pleased to talk to you (especially David!).   No previous knowledge is required, just a little patience and a sense of humour.

    • EYAL - Track and Field League for U13-U17 boys and girls - dates:
      21 Apr     St Albans
      26 May     Huntingdon
      4 Aug     St Albans
      18 Aug     Colchester (TBC)
There will be other meetings that the Club will be supporting, speak to a coach or Ken/David
