    Annual Subscriptions - a Reminder

Over 100 people have renewed their membership or joined the club since the beginning of the year.  However, there are still over 50 people who have not yet re-joined.  We don't want to lose you, but if you haven't paid by the time of the AGM then you won't be regarded as a member of the club.  Any seniors who are not a member of an affiliated club will have to pay the £2 unaffiliated levy in any road race in which they take part.  Subscription amounts are at the same level as 2006 - £15 for seniors, £7 for juniors, £5 for second-claim juniors.

Sandy 10 Road Race and Fun Run

This year's Sandy 10 was without doubt the biggest and best ever.  So a huge thank you to everyone who helped with the event.  Your support, enthusiasm and professionalism were brilliant.  The race was won in a new men's course record of 50m 29s - a quite stunning run.  And there were eighteen runners who finished inside the magic 60 minute barrier, which demonstrates the high calibre field.  But at the same time there were countless runners of all abilities who thoroughly enjoyed the event and the enthusiastic support of the marshals.  This is what has made it such a popular race amongst all runners.

Four club members, Steve Penny, Debs Bryant, Alistair Burt and Kirsty Heath, all ran exceptionally well, with Debs picking up a hat trick of prizes - 3rd Lady V35, 2nd Beds County Lady V35, and first "local" lady runner.  The 2 Mile Fun Run was well supported, with Bigglsewade AC junior Melissa Sergent winning the lady's trophy.  Well done Melissa.

Full results of the 10 mile race and 2 mile fun run are available on our web site, and are also published in the Biggleswade Chronicle (30th March edition).  If there are any helpers who have not been given their "Sandy 10 2007" tee-shirt, please contact Nigel at Tues/Thurs training nights or call 01767 682251.

    Club Affiliation

As advised last month, this subject will be a topic for discussion at the forthcoming AGM.  The Committee has discussed this important subject and will make some proposals at the AGM.  We would welcome an input from any Club member on this issue and would love to hear your views. There's a comparison of England Athletics vs. the Association of Running Clubs on the website.

    Biggleswade AC Club Tour 2007

More than 14 people have expressed an interest in going on this year's "club tour" to the Derbyshire Peak District for a long weekend in early October.  The plan is to hire a well appointed large house or cottage complex for three nights (Friday to Monday) for a weekend of running, walking, sightseeing and socialising. See web links below for the type of accommodation we have looked at:

    www.hoptonhall.co.uk
      www.darwinlake.co.uk
      www.wheeldontreesfarm.co.uk
We may even be able to take part in (or watch) a local Fell Race if we are lucky.  More details will be put on the web site Forum during the next few weeks.  Please contact Nigel if you are interested.  We need to know final numbers by the end of April to book suitable accommodation.

    Contact with Stevenage Leisure Staff

Some of you have been sending unofficial messages to Stevenage Leisure Staff on issues relating to our use of Stevenage Leisure facilities.  We would ask you not to do this - if you have any queries or concerns about Stevenage Leisure and our use of their facilities, then please contact a Committee member who will then ensure that the matter is brought up for discussion/resolution with all those concerned.

Biggleswade AC Quiz and Social Evening with Buffet

A Quiz and Social Evening is arranged for Saturday 19th May, starting at 7:00pm, in the main Dining Room/Bar at Sandy Upper School.  This is an opportunity for all Junior and Senior members of the club (with family and friends) to get together for a fun-filled evening.  You can either come along with a pre-organised team of four, or we will form teams on the night from individuals not in a team.  Quiz questions will be on a variety of subjects (e.g. modern music, sport, general knowledge, French, etc), so make sure your team has a broad range of knowledge if you want to win.  Tickets will soon be going on sale for this event, and will be priced at about £5 including the buffet food.  A Bar is available to purchase drinks.

So why not put this date in your diary and get working on forming and naming your "winning" team.  More information will be available soon on the club's web site, or see any committee member or coach for more information.

Biggleswade AC enter into the Carnival Spirit

This year Biggleswade AC (Juniors and Seniors) will be entering a walking float into the Biggleswade Carnival on Saturday 30th June.  If anyone can build, paint or sew please let Gavin know or pop your name on the forum.  The theme this year is "50 years" and as our club has been going for more years than that we will be themed "Biggleswade AC through the ages".

    Club Records and Best Performances
David Brown holds a compilation of Club records and athletes' best performances.  The records and best performances listed here are new to the list, though some go back several years.  If anybody thinks they have a club record they should send the details - result, time/distance, age group, event date - to David for verification.  If you don't do this, your result may not get into the list, even if it's published elsewhere, as David can't check every result in all publications.

    Ironman New Zealand  3 Mar
Our diminutive Kiwi, Sharyn Bray, went back home to compete in her first full ironman triathlon.  This epic athletic event began with a mass start at 7am on March 3rd with the competitiors hurling themselves into a 3.8km swim, followed by 180km bike ride, finishing with a 42.2km (thats a marathon to the rest of us) run.  Sharyn completed the whole event in the excellent time of 15 hours 4 minutes 12 seconds.  Her full results can be seen at www.ironman.co.nz/main.cfm?id=94&aid=31259
