    Biggleswade AC on Sky TV

On Sunday 3rd July over thirty members of Biggleswade Athletic Club travelled to the studios of SKY television to take part in "The World Greatest Sporting Legends Show" on Sky Television hosted by Sir David Frost and Desmond Lynam.  A sporting celebrity panel including such people as Gold Medallist and world record holder Michael Johnson, Olympic medallist Swimmer Sharon Davis and Olympian and broadcaster Brendan Foster discussed who was the greatest Olympian of all time.  The show also featured a live link up with Sir Stephen Redgrave.  Biggleswade Athletic Club were chosen and given priority seating as they needed a sport-savvy audience and they were joined by swimmer Duncan Goodhew and sprinter Jamie Balsh.

The following day Gavin recieved an email from the SKY Production Team saying:  "I was so pleased that you all came along and were such a fantastic audience.  Sir David and Desmond were keen to stress to us after the show that the crowd was absolutely fantastic.  Thanks again Tanya for spreading the word!"

Formal Opening of Track and Fitness Suite
Sandy Upper School: 22nd September 2005

The Club has been invited by the School to attend the event and we have been asked to help with the proceedings by supporting the School Sports Day and giving general assistance where we can.  The day just happens to be the start of the countdown to the 2012 Olympics - there are 2500 days to go from 22nd September.  We hope that there will be some significant sporting dignitaries there but in any event if you can take the time off to come along you will be more than welcome.

Kingfisher Way - Sat 23rd July

Eight club members, and one guest from Fairlands Valley Spartans, set off from Baldock in pleasantly mild weather to run the Kingfisher Way on 23rd July.  The path was mostly good, with just the odd thistle and stinging nettle leaving its mark.  Well done to Tanya for completing her longest run to date (16 miles to Sandy) in her Dublin Marathon build up, and to Alex for showing us a clean pair of heels for most of the way.

Southern Mens League  9th July High Wycombe
Biggleswade were 3rd out of 4
With holidays, injuries and some at the English Schools' Championships, numbers were down, we had only three athletes here.  The numbers game took its toll and in the end Biggleswade came out very tired in 3rd place, and promotion hopes ended.  The Campaign will have to be put on ice until next year.

    U13 Inter-Counties  Kingston, Surrey, 24th July
6 members of Biggleswade AC competed in this event and was the second highest contingent of athletes within the county behind Bedford & County.
Helen Brown  70 m Hurdles  13.1 secs  7th in heat
Helen Brown  Long Jump  3.80 m  13th in pool
Katie Bland  Discus  20.38 m  4th in pool  PB CR

     Chloe Best  1500 m  6.02.56 min  12th
Jasmine Coughtry  Shot  7.17 m  7th in pool  PB CR
Jasmine was very plucky as she had whiplash from a car accident the day before, and was a little stiff, but she wished to compete and not let her team down.  Helen also competed in the 4 x 100 m quartet and Bedfordshire came home in 13th. In the overall team competition Bedfordshire Girls should be 8th (there is a dispute with the result at this time)
     Conner Best  Discus  20.75 m  6th
Conner Best  80 m Hurdles  17.01 secs  7th in pool
     Billie Balaam  Shot  8.69 m  4th
Connor achieved his Hurdles time after falling at the penultimate hurdle, having already got a bad burn from the shower in the morning. Another plucky lad who put all his effort in to compete in difficult conditions.  Billie also competed in the discus with the team, being let down by an athlete not turning up.  Billie got to compete in the 3rd round only but hit the cage therefore a no throw.  With the athlete not turning up this left a space for Tom Bruce to compete in the county team and finish a credible 11th in the Javelin for a new PB 17.30 m.  Conner was also in the 4 x 100 m contingent and the team were disqualified.  In the final Boys result Beds were 7th with 277 points.

    Watford  28th July 2005
Alice Middleton competed in this event, which also incorporated British Milers Club (BMC) races.  Alice opted for the 800 m and in her race romped home to win by 25 m and a new PB of 2.30.54 mins.
