Some late items...

The editor thanks the anonymous person who sent him 43 Tescos vouchers, they've been sent on to Ken Prior.  He's collecting them till some time after Christmas, to cash them in for some equipment

Gavin reports a man behaving strangely near the Danish Camp, so take care.

Zoe says she'll be racing on the 11th, so whe won't be coaching.  The session on the 18th will be followed by a talk Richard Gilbert in the Class Room of the Future at 8.15pm "Get the most out of your running with Goal Mapping"

Club Annual Dinner and Presentation Evening
Friday 25 Jan at The Green Man, Stanford

As many of you know, we have used this venue several times before.  A lovely conservatory style area is made available to us in the restaurant and the food is very reasonable.  Details of the menu will be put on the website (if you would like a copy of the menu by e-mail please advise Stuart Galloway).  The cost will be £18.50 per person for a 3 course meal.  Partners are welcome at the event.

Please advise Stuart Galloway as to what you would like to eat (3 courses), preferably by e-mail, and no later than 11th January.  Payment must be received by 15th January - cheques should be made payable to "Biggleswade AC".  There is a limit of 80 persons in the restaurant, so places will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis.

London Marathon Club Places

This year we have been limited to 2 Club Places for the Flora London Marathon 2008.  If you meet the criteria for a Club Place then please let Stuart Galloway know as soon as possible, but by not later than 14th December, if you wish to be considered for entry into the draw. The criteria are:
- you must be in receipt of a rejection slip from the 2008 London Marathon ballot
- you have been a member of the club for at least 12 months at the time of the ballot
- you must be a 1st claim member of Biggleswade AC
- you have not received a London Marathon "club" place in the previous 3 years.
The Draw will probably be made on the day of the Christmas Handicap run, or just before.

Kingfisher Way Run (Winter Edition)
Sat 29 Dec

The Kingfisher Way is a 21 mile footpath along the banks of the River Ivel from Baldock (the source) to Temspford (where the Ivel joins the River Great Ouse).  The route travels through Arlesey, Langford, Biggleswade, Sandy and Blunham).  If you only wish to run part of the course, you are welcome to join/leave at points along route.

For those intending to run the whole route, we will meet at Tempsford at 08:30 ready to drive to Baldock in shared transport.  We plan to start the run at 09:00 in Baldock.  Contact Nigel for more information.

Sandy 10 Mile Race

Next year's Sandy 10 (provisional date Sunday 30th March) is the 25th running of the event, and to mark this occasion we wish to make it an extra-special event.  This could take the form of additional sponsorship from local businesses, and commemorative goodies for all finishers.  If you have any ideas for the above please contact Nigel.

Club Championship Races

5K Championship
This year we have decided to add a 5K championship to the existing 10k, 10 mile and Half Marathon championship races.  To qualify for the 5K championship you must run in one of the three 5K races staged by Fairlands Valley Spartans (Stevenage).  The last race is at 7:45pm, on Wed 12th Dec.  Your best time in any of the three races will be used to work out the 5k club champions, based on age-graded times.  These races fill up fast, so enter early to avoid disappointment.  There are unlikely to be any entries on the day.

Half Marathon Championship
Don't forget that the Club's Half Marathon Championship race is the Beds Harriers Wootton Half Marathon on Sunday 9th December.

Monday Night Training...

... at Biggleswade's Recreation Centre - circuit and conditioning for Senior athletes, Sportshall for juniors - 6:00pm till 7:00pm, still at £1.00 a session

(and there's a Sportshall Challenge on Sun 16th March)

Xmas / New Year Hills training...

... at Rowney Warren on Thu 27 Dec and Mon 31 Dec from 10:30 am.  Meet at the Sand Lane Car Park.

The Seniors Tuesday Night Programme

You can find these and other training events in the training section of the Club website

4th Dec  Biggleswade Away Day - Lead by TBA
   11th Dec  Hills are Fun...honest!
   18th Dec  Speedwork with Zoe
   25th Dec  [ Christmas Day ]

***   you may need a track pass or to pay for a day pass when doing Speed or Track work

Thursday evenings will usually be "General Running", dictated by the race calendar, and are tailored on the night to the participants needs.  Runners are usually split into ability groups to ensure everyone has a good run.

From time to time on a Thursday evening Graham Bufton from Bedford International Athletics Track will be down to give his expert coaching.

If anyone would like to organise an AWAY DAY in your village or town in 2007, or a run on your favourite training route, please let Gavin or one of the committee know.

    Chiltern Cross-Country League  Luton , 1 Dec
Suddenly it's winter - the day started sunny but despite some grey cloud as the races got underway, the weather still seemed rather benign.  After the youngsters races, it was beginning to get noticeably colder as the senior and veteran ladies lined up for the start of their race but the high proportion of vests indicated nothing special was expected.  With less than a minute to go before the start, there was a flash of lightening, a crash of thunder and an almost instant downpour of stinging hail.  Runners and officials alike ran for the nearest cover.  This was the Biggleswade team tent and it suddenly became a heaving mass of people, only a few of them from Biggleswade!  Nobody moved for 10 minutes until the 2storm died down and the ladies were eventually on their way, though now on a course that had changed from green to white.  The hail stopped but was replaced by a steady drizzle that made the cold that much more unpleasant.
