Annual General Meeting
Tuesday 26th March 2002   8:00pm

The venue for the Club's AGM is likely to be the same as last year - the Weatherly Centre, adjacent to Stratton School and the Recreation Centre where we meet on club nights.   Please note the following in relation to the meeting, to which you are all cordially invited.

  1. Any written nominations for the posts of Officers on the Committee must be received by the Secretary no later than 19th March and must be seconded by another member of the Club.   Nominations in writing take precedence over nominations on the evening.
  2. Any member over the age of 17 may request that an item for discussion be added to the Agenda but details must be received by the Secretary in writing by 5th March.   There will be no Agenda Item of Any Other Business on the evening.
  3. Only paid-up members over the age of 17 may vote at the AGM, or hold a place on any Committee.
  4. A copy of the Agenda will be sent to all members by 12th March and a copy of the Minutes of the previous AGM held on 27th March 2001 will be made available to members attending the meeting, prior to the start; if you wish to receive a copy beforehand please advise the Secretary by 5th March.

Sandy 10 - Sunday 7th April 2002

Planning for this year's Sandy 10 Mile race and 2 mile Fun Run is well underway.   If you feel that you are able to help us on the day (eg course marshalling) please contact either Nigel Bush or Stuart Galloway.   This year we are grateful for the sponsorship offered to us by Jordans Cereals of Biggleswade and ARO Sports of Hitchin.

The Queen's Jubilee Baton Relay

The Queen's Baton Relay has been the curtain raiser for the Commonwealth Games since the 1958 Games in Cardiff.   Carrying a message from the Queen as Head of the Commonwealth, the Baton symbolises the calling of the athletes to the Games.   With the XVII Commonwealth Games in Manchester falling in the same year as Her Majesty's Golden Jubilee celebrations, the Queen's Jubilee Baton Relay will unite these two events.    The Relay will begin its journey at Buckingham Palace on Commonwealth Day, 11 March 2002, visiting more than 20 Commonwealth countries as it travels the globe.   It returns to Britain on 6th June and the Relay then starts a 50-day 5000 mile journey around the British Isles being carried by runners nominated by their communities through more than 500 towns.   On 25 July, the Baton will arrive at the Opening Ceremony in the City of Manchester Stadium.    The final Runner will hand the Baton to the Queen who will read the message it contains to formally open the first Commonwealth Games of the 21st Century.   The Baton is carried through our area on 28th June, starting in the morning at Newmarket, and then goes through Baldock, Stevenage, Hertford, St.Albans and eventually ends up in the evening at Luton.

Club Social - Friday 11th January 2002

About 30 people attended the Dinner at the Green Man where the Club trophies were presented by our Chairman, Nigel Bush.   Everybody enjoyed the evening.   We were able to partake of some good food, drank some excellent beer, and enjoyed some excellent company.   Congratulations again to all the recipients of the Trophies.

Queen's Jubilee Celebrations (Week of 2nd June 2002)

We have decided to go ahead with the idea of organising some Road Races in Biggleswade Town Centre and will be contacting the Town Council to seek their advice as to when would be the best time over the holiday.
