Annual Subscriptions

Annual Subscriptions for Club membership became due on 1st January.  At our last AGM we decided to maintain Membership fees at £12 for over 17's and £5 for under 17's.  Please make arrangements pay your money as soon as possible (to any member of the committee).  There is no need to fill out another application form - just give your name and address.  However, if any personal details have changed such as telephone number, e-mail address etc.  then please advise Stuart Galloway so that we can update our records.

Club AGM - Tuesday 27th March 2001

We have decided to set the date for the AGM early this year so that you can get the date into your diaries as soon as possible.  The AGM will be held on Tuesday 27th March, hopefully in the MBDC offices in London Road, Biggleswade.  We will confirm the venue at a later date.

Sandy 10 - April 15th

The Sandy 10 this year will be held on Sunday April 15th (Easter Sunday).  Although there are still 3 months to go before the event, Nigel Bush will be contacting many of you during the next few weeks to ask whether you can assist with the organisation, particularly by helping on the day.  We are looking to build on the success of the race in year 2000 where we had nearly 300 runners in the 10 mile race and 2 mile Fun Run.

Twin Town Run - Erlensee, Germany - 8/9/10 June

Our sister Club in Erlensee has invited us to take part in an event in Germany.  They are keen that we should take part in a weekend run, Der Brüder Grimm Lauf, which is a run of 85km, over some beautiful country from Hanau to Steinau.  The event is staged over 3 days and is a very sociable event.  It is taking place on 8th, 9th, and 10th June (Friday to Sunday).  If anybody is interested, please let Stuart Galloway know (01767-223942).  We shall be planning on how to get there depending on numbers interested.

Club Handicap Races:
Saturday 23rd December

We had another excellent turn out this year for both the junior and senior races.  Many thanks to Roger for having again undertaken the task of working out handicaps for the senior race and to Ken for having worked out the handicaps for the juniors.  It all went very well with some excellent competition, all athletes finishing very close to each other in both races, which is how a well handicapped race should end.  The annual get-together in the Kings Arms afterwards, along with the run to Potton and Everton was also very enjoyable.

Club Runs during the Christmas / New Year Holiday period

Although we were lacking in numbers for the two club runs held between Christmas and New Year, they proved to be very enjoyable and scenic!

The 21 mile Kingfisher Way on Thurs 28th December was memorable for two reasons: (i) we saw a real live Kingfisher on the stretch of river between Astwick and Arlesey, and (ii) we ran the whole distance in ankle deep snow.  A combination which is unlikely to be repeated for a number of years!

The 7 mile Navigators Way on Fri 29th Dec was also run in ankle deep snow with -6°C temperatures, but the bright sunshine and crisp conditions made it very enjoyable.

Club Nights

Don't forget that we meet every Tuesday and Thursday evening in the bar of the Recreational Centre at Biggleswade, next to Stratton School at 7.00pm.  Even if you can't make it every week do try and come along on some Club nights.  We shall keep you informed of any weekend training sessions, either by newsletter, telephone, or e-mail.

London Marathon Club Places

Most people, of whom we are aware, who applied for London Marathon places seemed to have been successful.  One Club place has been allocated to Roger Wadeley, with one still to be decided.  Best of luck in your forthcoming training if you are due to run this prestigious event.

National Cross Country Championships
Saturday 24th February

After much consultation and deliberation we have decided that interest in attending the National this year is not sufficient to warrant putting in entries.

South of England AA Cross Country Championships
Saturday 27th January (Parliament Hill)

We have received notification that our entries have been accepted.  Numbers have to be collected on the day.  Ken Prior has the confirmation sheet for the various age categories.

South of England Athletic Association
100% increase in affiliation fees ?

In the last Newsletter we reported the staging of an EGM of the SEAA on 17th December.  If you remember, it was the intention of the SEAA to raise an extra £50,000 to help pay for five Regional Development Co-ordinators by raising Club Affiliation Fees by 100%.  Your Committee decided to vote against this Resolution on the basis that we believe sufficient money is already held by AAA of England and Sport England, and that other sources of funding are available through the Government.  Voting papers were submitted to this effect.  We have yet to hear the outcome of the EGM.
