    Happy New Year

A very Happy New Year to all our members and supporters.  Thank you for all your support in 2006.  We have had many successes at both Junior and Senior level during 2006, and we have hosted a number of successful Track and Field, Road and Cross Country events which have elevated the prominence of Biggleswade AC and its members.  We can now look forward to an even more successful 2007.

Annual Club Dinner and Presentation Evening
Friday 19 January 2007 - The Green Man (Stanford)

As many of you know, we have used this venue several times before - we have a lovely conservatory style area made available to us in the restaurant and the food is very reasonable.  Partners are very welcome.  Please advise Stuart Galloway as soon as possible (latest 9th January) if you would like to go, preferably by e-mail.

The menu is on the Club Forum (here) or a copy can be sent by E-mail or post.  The cost is £18.50 per person, cheques to be made payable to "Biggleswade AC" please, and sent to Stuart Galloway or Nigel Bush by 12th January.

    Sandy 10 Road Race

The Sandy 10 mile road race, organised by Biggleswade AC, will take place on Sunday 25th March next year.  If you would like to find out more about the race and its history, check out the Sandy 10 link on our web site.  During the next few months we will be asking members if they are prepared to help with all the various duties on the day of the race.  If you feel that you have a particular skill to offer, please contact Nigel or Stuart.

    Submitting your Race Results

The website now includes a new form for submitting your race results to Neil Gregory.  This ensures a consistent and complete set of information to allow our club records and statistics are kept up to date.  The new form can be found on the Results page of the website.  Please contact the Webmaster if you have any queries.

London Marathon - 2007: Club Places

The draw was held in the Sir William Peel after the annual Club Handicap Run (Fairy Run).  The lucky recipients of the three places were:
Natalie Darlow, Paula Dawson, and Mark Stead.
We wish them all the very best in their training and, of course, on the big day.

    Monday Night Training

Training at Biggleswade's Recreation Centre - circuit and conditioning for Senior athletes, Sportshall for juniors - commences Monday 8th Jan at 6 pm, still at £1.00 a session.

    Luton Marathon  4 Dec
Three members of the Club took part in the Luton Marathon.  The rain held off but vicious winds raked one side of the course causing many drop-outs from cold and exhaustion.  Fortunately, the Biggleswade athletes were made of sterner stuff and all finished in commendable times.  First home was Super-vet (in more ways than one), Clark Skerratt in a time of 3 hours 2 mins and 44 seconds.  But for the wind this would have been yet another sub-3 hour clocking for the over 55 year old and it was no surprise that he easily won his age group.

Next home were Kim Masson and Lee Welham, who ran together thoughout.  Kim was running for her first claim club, Cambridge and Colerige and was third lady and first lady V40.  Both finished in 3 hours 17 mins which was a very good time in the conditions, particularly as they were only doing it as a training run!

South of England Indoor Facility Inaugural Opening , 10 Dec
Biggleswade AC had 3 athletes competing at this new facility at Pickett's Lock, the new home of Enfield and Haringey AC.

In the women's 400 m Alice Middleton competed in her first indoor 400m race (2 laps of the banked 200m track).  The main feature of this distance is the shoving, barging and blocking that goes on because one lap is in lanes and then the final lap is a 'free for all' in lane 1.  On a tight 200 m track the only way to stay out of trouble is to dictate the pace and be out in front, when the athletes break out of lanes.  That was the plan but it didn't quite happen - at the bell Alice was in 3rd but kept her composure and attacked down the back straight and round the last bend.  Alice won in a new indoor PB of 59.30 secs and a new club record.

In the 800m races Biggleswade AC had the McKenzie sisters Chelsea (U15) and Molly (U13) competing.  Molly went first and was drawn in lane 2; advice offered as she was on the track was misinterpreted and she ran in lane 2 all the way (4 laps) and was just pipped at the finish for 1st place, still good enough for a new PB and U13 indoor club record of 2 mins 59.  28 secs.

Chelsea was preparing her indoor season to peak at the England Athletics Championships in February at the National Indoor Arena Birmingham in February and was looking for a fast race.  Unfortunately Chelsea had to do all of the pace and work her self as she won this by over 100m, but despite this Chelsea set a new indoor club record and indoor PB of 2 mins 30.75 secs.

U13 800 m  Molly McKenzie  2 mins 59.28 secs  Indoor CR and PB
U15 800 m  Chelsea McKenzie  2 mins 30.75 secs  Indoor CR and PB
U20 400 m  Alice Middleton  59.30 secs  Indoor CR and PB
