Are you a Member?

It has come to our attention that some athletes using the track have forgotten to join this year.  If you are using the track with the Club, you should by now be a member of Biggleswade Athletic Club, and you can find a membership form here.  This is very important for club insurance and the safety and wellbeing of all athletes.

Biggleswade Athletic Club are always pleased to welcome new members, whether you are a beginner or an experienced athlete.  We have several coaches and our training programme ensures that all abilities are catered for, allowing everyone to join in together.  Annual Subscriptions become due on 1st January each year.  The fees (excluding Track Fees) are currently:

  • £20 for Seniors
  • £12 for Juniors
  • £7 for Second Claim Seniors (competition will be limited unless the member has affiliated to England Athletics through their first claim club)
  • £5 for Second Claim Juniors (competition will be limited unless the member has affiliated to England Athletics through their first claim club - if not, it is advisable to join us first claim)

However, during the first period of membership the following charges apply, depending on the month of election:

  Senior    Junior     Second Claim
Senior
 Jan - Mar    £20 £12 £7
 Apr - Jun    £15 £9 £5
 Jul - Sept    £10 £6 £3
 Oct - Dec    £5 £3 £2

If you have any queries on membership, please contact Stuart Galloway on 01767 223942

Summer BBQ - Sun 20 JULY

A summer BBQ for club members and family is planned for Sunday 20th July.  Sue and David Sutton (and Damo) have kindly offered their beautiful garden as the venue, in Bedford Road Sandy.

The event will start at approx 3pm, with the BBQ at 5pm.  It will be FREE as it is being funded by money donated from the Sandy 10 race this year, as a THANK YOU to all the members and friends who supported the event.  Please add your name to the Forum thread, or contact Nigel, if you plan to come along, so that we can organise food and drink.

For those who feel they would like to work up an appetite before the BBQ, we will also be holding the Summer Edition of the Kingfisher Way Run on the same day.

Kingfisher Way Run - Sun 20 July

This Summer's Kingfisher Way Run is taking place on Sunday 20th July, starting at 09:00 in Baldock.  Transport to Baldock will leave Tempsford near the Wheatsheaf Pub at 08:30.  Contact Nigel if you plan to run, or wish to join in the run along the way.

Annual "Senior V Junior" Rounders and BBQ - Tue 13 Aug

The challenge is on!  The biggest Rounders Match of the year is to be played.  Who will win this years competition?  The juniors narrowly won last year so the seniors will be looking for revenge.

Get your teams ready.  Take each leg steady.  And off we GO!  The date is set for this years Grafham Relay.  This event is for Juniors as well as Seniors.  Teams of 8 required.  Application forms will be available shortly (entry is FREE to all Biggleswade AC members).  More information to appear on the forum nearer the time.

Junior Disco and Presentation evening - Sat 13 Sep

A "Summer End" Junior Disco and Presentation evening is planned for Saturday 13th September in the Sandy Upper School main hall.  Tickets soon to go on sale.  Its going to be a fun packed evening full of music and dance, and awards.  Details will be available soon.

    Club Website

The club website is already a marvellous resource used by many members and kept up to date thanks to the data that is regularly provided by a large number of contributors and thanks to the continuing hard work of our webmaster, Tim Huxtable.

However, it is felt that there is a need to make the website more interesting to junior members and the club coaches and officials are currently addressing this issue, and if you have any ideas on what you feel would be of interest to the younger members of the club, then please get in contact with any committee member or coach with your views.

We wish you all the very best of luck in all your athletic endeavours

There are now 87 paid up senior, and 46 paid up junior, members of the club; very definitely an all-time record for this time of year.  We have unfortunately lost 23 athletes who have not re-joined the club since last year, but even this is a lower number than in previous years.

    Affiliation to England Athletics

The names and contact details of all current, paid-up, competing, members of the club over the age of 11 have been added to the England Athletic Club Portal.  This totalled 116 persons, so the sum of £580 has been paid over to EA and acknowledgement has been received.  Hopefully, Competition Licences will be received by members within the next month or so, along with individual passwords, allowing each member to access/modify his/her record.

Club Tour - Derbyshire Peak District 10-13 Oct

The club tour will return to the Derbyshire Peak District this year, to Darwin Lakes, just outside Matlock, for a long weekend starting Friday 10th October, and returning on Monday 13th October.  We stay in very well appointed cottages, each sleeping 6.

The cottages at Dawin Lakes have now been booked, and to date we have 37 club members and partners going, compared to 24 last year!  All participants will be contacted in in a few weeks time with a suggested itinerary for the weekend.  Details for Darwin Lakes can be found at www.darwin-lakes.co.uk
