Everton Fun Day - Sat 9th June

The Everton Fun Day makes a good morning or day out for the family.  Attractions include, the Fun Run, a 5-a-side football tournament and various stalls and games.

Entry Forms for the 3 Mile Fun Run are available from Nigel, or you can enter on the day at Everton Village Hall.  There is also a 1 mile Fun Run for kiddies.

5-a-side Football
Last year we managed to make it all the way to the final and were only knocked out on penalties.  We had a great team which included Hucky in goal, Tanya as manager and Gav as "super Sub".  If you are interested in joining the team please let one of them know.  Experience not essential, but having "an idea or a clue" is beneficial.

 

 

Kingfisher Way - Sun 15 Jul

This year's Summer Edition of the Kingfisher Way training run is planned for Sunday 15th July.  The total distance, from Baldock to Tempsford following the River Ivel, is 21 miles, but runners can join or leave the route at any point if they wish to run a shorter distance.

 

 

Sandy 10 Race Charity Donation

We are very pleased to report that this year's Sandy 10 race, held on 25th March, was so successful that we are able to donate £2000.00 to our chosen charity - Keech Cottage Children's Hospice.  This is a truly magnificent achievement and the Hospice are extremely grateful.  The presentation of the cheque is taking place on Tues 5th June at 7.00pm at the Sandy track.

 

 

Biggleswade AC going national

Wolseley uk (which includes Build Center / Timber Center / Plumb Center) have offered to feature our club in their company magazine, which will be circulated to over 17,000 staff up and down the country.  Plus on top of this they are donating t-shirt for our 5-a-side team for the Everton tourament, timber for our carnival float plus t-shirts for all runners and supporters for this years Round Norfolk Relay.  Futher "free stuff" is still to be negotiated.  To see a copy of the magazine please see Gavin.

 

 

Biggleswade AC Quiz and Social Evening

Many thanks to the 63 members, family and friends who came along to our first Quiz Night on 19th May at Sandy Upper School and made it such a successful evening.  Fifteen teams competed for the prizes and honour of being Brains of Biggleswade AC 2007, with questions in a variety of categories including music, sport, general knowledge and a picture round.  The evening finished with a noisy but hilarious quick-fire round, thanks to Elaine Stead for supplying the buzzers.  There were bonus points on offer if your team were the fastest and best dancers on a random signal and Team One took full advantage of this leading to outright victory for Natalie Darlow , Rob Morgan, Debs Bryant and Lins Morgan.  Team Fifteen were second and Team 14 took third prize.  A special thanks to Question Master Gavin Elliot and his assistants Paula Dawson and Tanya Tatchley who organized the whole fun filled and successful evening.

 

 

Biggleswade AC Club Tour Fri 5th to Mon 8th October 2007

There are now 23 people booked to go on the trip to the Derbyshire Peak District.  We are staying in four well appointed cottages at Darwin Lakes near Matlock in Derbyshire (see http://www.darwinlake.co.uk).  We currently have space for one more lady (to share a twin room), and we can accommodate more people by booking additional cottages if required.  If anyone else would like to come along, please let Nigel know as soon as possible.  

 

Biggleswade AC enter into the Carnival Spirit

This year Biggleswade AC (Juniors and Seniors) will be entering a walking float into the Biggleswade Carnival on Saturday 30th June.  If anyone can build, paint or sew please let Gavin know or pop your name on the forum.  The theme this year is "50 years" and as our club has been going for more years than that we will be themed "Biggleswade AC through the ages".  Lots of help is needed prior to the event - all juniors and seniors are welcome to join in the fun.

 

 

Schools Track Relays, Sandy 10 May

We had a very successful Schools' track relays with more schools than ever, and 3 from outside the county, our reputation is spreading.  A comment from a school meeting only last week "The schools athletics program is very busy but the Biggleswade Track relays at the start of the season is now a definite on the school calendar" - well done Biggleswade AC!!

 

 

Club affiliations

Affiliation to the Association of Running Clubs (ARC)
We have now paid our affiliation fee and the Club is officially a member of the Association of Running Clubs.  The benefits of joining ARC have been discussed at length in previous newsletters and on the website.

Affiliation to England Athletics (EA)
We have now paid our affiliation fee as a Club along with individual payments for all our junior members over the age of 11 and those seniors who chose to affiliate to EA.  Acknowledgement has been received but it is unlikely that individual athletes will receive their Licences until September.

Thursday evenings will be "General Running", dictated by the race calendar, and are tailored on the night to the participants needs.  Runners are usually split into ability groups to ensure everyone has a good run.

If anyone would like to organise an AWAY DAY in your village or town in 2007, or a run on your favourite training route, please let Gavin or one of the committee know (AWAY DAYS for 2007 are already planned for Grafham Waters, Royston Hills, Bedford Embankment and Parks, Old Warden).

 

 

Leagues, Series, and Other Events

 

• The Greensand Ridge Relay: Sat 23rd June
  The Greensand Ridge Relay is a fun and friendly local relay race.  Although it is organised by the South Midlands Orienteering Club it is patronised primarily by running clubs in the region.  It follows the Greensand Ridge Way from Leighton Buzzard as far as Northill, passing through Woburn and Ampthill.

  We first entered a team last year and it was a great day out.  So far we have a ladies' team and are just a few people short of entering a second team.  Legs range from about 5 miles to a little over 8.  It's good practice for the Round Norfolk Relay as you will definitely need to recce your leg!  If you fancy representing the club in this race, please add your name to the GSRR forum topic or contact Giles, or a member of the committee. • Three Peaks of Great Britain: 30th June
  Five runners are tackling the Three Peaks challenge on the weekend of 30th June, attempting to run up and down the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, Snowdon) within 24 hours, including travelling between the peaks.  We are not looking for any more "volunteers" now - the flights, car, etc, have all been booked.

   

• Great Yarmouth Open trophy meeting: Sunday 12 August
  A good day out with some time on the beach and pleasure park etc - and of course athletics for all U11's to Vets.  See David Brown for more information.

   

• Dorset Doddle (31 miles): Sunday 19 August
  Several club members have been running this testing event for over 20 years.  The event is organised by the Long Distance Walkers Association (LDWA) and 50% of entries walk the whole route.  There is a 12 hour limit.  The other 50% try to run it, although much of the hilly terrain means that some of the route has to be walked.  Club member Roger Wadeley holds the course record of 4hr 20mins, although it is not treated as a race and there are no prizes.  The event starts in Weymouth and follows the coastal path all the way to Swanage, passing through Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove.  If you feel that 31 miles is too far, you can always run/walk to Lulworth (11 miles) or Kimmeridge Bay (19 miles) to get a taste for the event.  For more information see the LDWA Dorset Group Doddle page or contact Nigel.

   

• Round Norfolk Relay: 15th/16th Sept
  Make a note in your diary for this years RNR.  Entry for the race is now open.  Once again, we will be looking to enter a team in this magnificant running event.  See the forum for updates, for more information about the race see www.roundnorfolkrelay.com.
  Please let Mark, Ken, Tim or Gav know if you are interested in competing this year and get your money and race questionaires back as soon as possible so a team can be selected.
