    Club Membership - Annual Subscriptions

Annual subscriptions became due on 1st January - £12 for Seniors, £5 for Juniors, Second Claim £7.  Club Rules say you may not compete for the Club after 31st January - NOW!! - if your subscription hasn't been renewed.  About 74 people have re-joined but that still leaves about 80 from last year who have yet to come back to us.  We don't want to lose you so please get those cheques in as soon as possible!

    Well Done Web Team

Congratulations to Webmasters Tim Huxtable and Ken Prior and all who help with the website - on Friday 25th February the club website reached the 10,000 hit mark.  This is a huge achievement.  It's not just club members that use the site for find out about races and what is going on, which is a testimony to how good the site is.  It is always kept right up to date and the forum has many lively debates and chats on it.  It also has many useful links on it to many other sites that you will find helpful to improve your running, plus reports on what we have been up to and what is planned for the future, and the ever-popular monthly "Guess the baby competition".  If you have never visited it, it's about time you did - www.biggleswadeac.org.uk

Notice of the Club's Annual General Meeting
    Tuesday 22nd March

The AGM of the Club will be held on Tuesday 22nd March 2005 at Sandy Upper School in one of the larger class rooms.  The AGM is a very important event in the life of the club and provides the opportunity for members to make their own views known about how the club is being run, and to make suggestions for the future.  It is also the time when the new committee is elected.  Please make every effort to attend. (Only paid up members over the age of 17 may vote at an AGM).

If you wish to nominate a member to serve on the committee, this must be made in writing with the agreement of the person concerned, and supported by one other club member.  Such nominations should be sent to Stuart Galloway, by 8th March at the latest.  Prior nominations in writing take precedence over nominations on the evening.  All existing members of the committee are willing to stand again.

      The Agenda:
    1. Apologies for Absence

    Sandy 10 - Sunday 3rd April

Planning for the race is on schedule, and entries at this stage are ahead of last year's numbers, so we are hopeful of a record field.  Alan Prior has produced a superb design for the tee-shirt, presented to all finishers in the 10 mile race.

Don't forget to mention the race to your friends, family and work colleagues who may be up for the challenge of a 10 mile race, or the 2 mile Fun Run.  If you are able to display a poster for the event at your workplace please contact Nigel or any member of the committee. Chief Marshall Gavin has probably already contacted you to see if you can act as a course marshal on the day, but if he hasn't, and you are able to help, please let Gavin know.

The Runners World web site has a lively "Sandy 10" Forum (at www.runnersworld.co.uk/events) with many positive comments for the race, so let's make sure that this year's runners enjoy the event and come back again in future years.

    Bar Etiquette

Just a little reminder to try and keep the club bar as tidy as possible when we leave for our weekly runs, and please do all stretching and changing either in the changing rooms or outside of the bar.  Thank you for your anticipated cooperation in this matter.

When the evenings become lighter we will be meeting outside again near the class room of the future and this will no longer be a problem.

    Getting Rid Of A Stitch

Gavin has passed on this tip from the March 2005 issue of Runners World:

If the stitch on your right side, exhale when your left foot strikes the ground (and vice versa).  Or put your hands on your head and breathe deeply, from your stomach.  If it's still painfull, stop running and touch your toes a few times.

    Schools Cross-Country Relays
Rowney Warren Wednesday 9th March at 3pm.

We have nearly 300 children taking part and could still do with more marshals - please phone Ken Prior (01767 260592) if you can help.

    News of The Track

From a conversation with Roy Waterfield, MBDC, the lease is agreed between MBDC and County Council.  A letter has been sent by MBDC to County Hall with a deadline to have the lease agreement signed by the end of March to allow construction work to then start.

    Beds AAA

    HELP!!

The Bedfordshire AAA committee is in need of some new people to take up officer positions including, a General Secretary and a Minutes secretary; (the 2 positions could be combined).  From Biggleswade AC, David Brown and Steve Worrall are on the committee.  David is Officials Secretary; County Statistician, Track & Field Manager - Females and all juniors, and Female Cross Country Manager; Steve is Development and Training Secretary.

David will be relinquishing the cross country position after the inter counties on 5th March.  There are generally 2 representative events a year, in December (South of England Championships), and March (Inter County Championships). There are 4 committee meetings a year, held at a pub in Silsoe.

For further information see Steve or David.

    Overseas Tour 2005

Plans are now gathering momentum for the Club tour this year, and the destination is the "training camp" at Font Romeu, high up in the French Pyrenees (details for Font Romeu are at www.clos-st-savin.com).

The proposed date is Friday 20th to Monday 23rd May (to be confirmed).

Approximate costs for the weekend are as follows:

    • Return flights to Perpignan (Ryanair from Stansted) are about £84.00 (incl all taxes); there is only one flight per day, so the plan is to fly out on Friday (11.30) and return on Monday (15:00)
    • transport from Perpignan airport to Font Romeu is 20 Euros (£14:00) each way
    • "chalet style" accommodation at Font Romeu is 10 Euros (£7:00) per night
So far 10 members have said they want to go on the trip - if you are interested please let Nigel Bush know.  You can also keep in touch by visiting the Biggleswade AC web site Forum topic "Biggleswade AC on Tour".
