    Annual General Meeting
Tuesday 21 March at Sandy Sports Centre, Room RE1

The AGM is a very important event in the life of the club and provides the opportunity for members to make their own views known about how the club is being run, and to make suggestions for the future, so please make every effort to attend (only paid up members over the age of 17 may vote at an AGM)

It is also the time when the new committee is elected.  If you wish to nominate any member to serve on the committee this must be made in writing with the agreement of the person concerned and supported by one other club member.  Such nominations should be sent to Stuart Galloway, by7th March at the latest.

If you have any items that you would like added to the Agenda of the AGM, then please let Stuart Galloway know the details by 7th March at the latest.

NB: We have been asked to refer to the track and the Club's meeting place as "Sandy Sports Centre (attached to Sandy Upper School)" - we haven't moved.

Sandy 10 Road Race and 2 Mile Fun Run- 26 March

Entries for this year's Sandy 10 mile road race are well up on last year's entry level at the same stage, so we are expecting the race to be full (500 runners) before race day.  Included in the list of entries is local MP Alistair Burt, who is using the race in his preparation for the London Marathon.

Entry to the 2 mile Fun Run is free, with entries "on the day" only, so if you have any family members or friends who feel that they could run or jog 2 miles, why not encourage them to enter the Fun Run.  Runners must be 11 years and over.

We need Marshals and Drink Station Operatives - if you can help, the pre race briefing will be at 9am as Sandy Sports Centre.  Afterwards, we all hope to meet at the Bell PH, Station Road, Sandy at 5pm for some light refreshment.  We are expecting around 550 athletes to turn up this year so its going to be a huge event.  We are looking to recruit as many marshals as possible, feel free to bring family and friends.  Contact Gavin Elliot or put your name on the forum if you can help.

    Annual Subscriptions - Now (Over)Due

Many thanks to those of you who have re-joined the club again this year, the total is about 80.  This still leaves about 60 people from last year who have not re-joined yet.  We don't want to lose you, so get that money in to Stuart Galloway or Chris Clarke as soon as possible (£15 seniors and £7 juniors).  Remember it is a rule of the club that you cannot officially compete for us if you have not re-joined.

Sandy 12-Hour Track Relay - Sat 24 June

Biggleswade Athletic Club are proud to present its first 12hr track relay race.  The aim of the race is for your team to simply run the furthest distance around the track in the 12 hour period.  This relay is designed to build team spirit and morale.  The race is divided into different stage times to incorporate runners of all abilities - check out the website for more details.  Start assembling your teams now (6 per team, minimum of 2 ladies per team).

    Biggleswade AC Annual Pentathlon
    Tuesday 4th April

This annual (almost) internal competition, for which awards will be presented, will take place at the Sandy Sports Centre - see Gavin Elliot, David Brown, or Ken Prior for more information.

Changes to the Management of Athletics

From 1st April 2006 governance for our sport will pass to England Athletics and the English Regions, instead of the AAA of England and the various Territories.  However, the administration being undertaken currently by the SEAA will continue at least until the end of 2006 and from then until alternative administrative arrangements are put in hand by the nine Regional Councils (four of which are in the South).

Affiliation to England Athletics will be free and automatic to all SEAA affiliated clubs from 1st April for one year.  As the SEAA's affiliation year starts on 1st January, clubs will have to continue to affiliate to the SEAA from 1st January 2007 for three months - how this will be dealt with has yet to be finalised.

    Schools cross-country relays
Thurs 9 Mar at Rowney Warren, 3pm

Entries are rolling in and we confidently expect a field of 300+.  We need as much help as we can get, if you are able to help out please let Ken, David or Gavin know.  Remember to bring your ear-plugs !

    The Tuesday Night Programme

You can find these and other training events in the training section of the Club website

In addition to the below, every Tuesday and Thursday night Steve Worrall (Level IV Coach) will also be taking extra speed and endurance sessions for those who feel they need them.

7th Mar    VO2 Max test on the track - Ken Leading
**   14th Mar    Away Day - Bedford Embankment
**   21th Mar    Inclines with Gav
28th Mar    Speed Work with our Steve
     **   changes from original program

Thursday evenings will be "General Running", dictated by the race calendar, and is tailored on the night to the participants needs.  Runners are usually split into ability groups to ensure everyone has a good run.

If you would like to lead an Away Day in your home town, or you have any comments about the above programme please speak to Gavin or any of the committee.

English National Cross Country Championships , Parliament Hill, 25 Feb
The Senior Mens Team were 96th
Well done to everyone who tackled, and beat, the relentless hills and mud of this challenging course.  This was the first time that Biggleswade AC's senior men had finished a complete team in this event for many years, a great achievement given that the combined "age" of the six team members was 313 years! - including one over 50, two over 55 and one over 60.  We are now getting a bit old for galloping over the mud of Parliament Hill - and we think it is time for the young men in the club to step forward.
