    Annual Subscriptions - a Reminder

Nearly 90 people have renewed their membership or joined the club since the beginning of the year.  However, there are still over 60 people who have not yet re-joined.  We don't want to lose you, so please make every effort to send your subscription to Stuart Galloway or any Committee member as soon as possible.  Subscriptions were held at the same level as 2006 - £15 for seniors, £7 for juniors, £5 for second-claim juniors.

Club Annual General Meeting - Tuesday 24th April

As you may remember, we decided last year to delay the AGM until after the Sandy 10 because of the amount of work that the latter involves.  The AGM will therefore be held on Tuesday 24th April at 8.00pm.  The Agenda will be published in the April newsletter - please try and attend this important meeting.

One of the topics which might sound a bit dry but which is actually very important is, Athletic Affiliation bodies.  It is important to decide to which athletic bodies our club should affiliate.

If you have any item that you would like added to the Agenda for discussion at that meeting, please let Stuart Galloway know by the end of March.

Sandy 10 Road Race - Sun 25 Mar

At the beginning of March, entries for the 10 mile race were well over 350 and we expect to have reached our race limit of 550 runners before the 25th March, making it the biggest field in the history of the event.  Note that we are NOT permitting entries on the day in the 10 mile race.

We also expect a large entry in the 2 Mile Fun Run, which starts at 10:45.  Entries for the Fun Run are free and are ONLY taken on the day.  So why not encourage your child, partner, mother, etc to give it a go.

Many club members have already volunteered to help on the day with course marshalling, etc, but if you have not put your name forward and can help, please contact Gavin or Nigel.  All help is greatly appreciated.

    Club Affiliation

This year we are having to make some important decisions about the Athletic bodies to which the Club should affiliate.  After the disagreements that the Foster Report has produced within our sport, a lot of clubs felt that the administrative structure that came into being as a result was too costly and failed to represent all branches of the sport effectively, particularly Road Running.  Details were published in the February newsletter of the requirements to affiliate to England Athletics from 1st April 2007 onwards, but your attention is also drawn to a new body which has come into existence following the lobbying by the Association of GB Athletic Clubs (ABAC) - the Association of Running Clubs (ARC).  Have a look and see what you think.  The Committee will be discussing the state of affairs next month, and it will be one of the items for discussion and decision at the AGM.  However, it must be noted that ARC cannot represent Track and Field disciplines so the position is quite a bit more complicated for Athletic Clubs like ours.

    Biggleswade AC Club Tour 2007

Following successful tours to overseas destinations in the past four years (Le Touquet, Reims, Pyrenees twice) we have decided to visit and explore ENGLAND this year!  We are planninng to visit the Peak District in Derbyshire for a long weekend in October.  Details can be found on the website forum.

Three Peaks of Great Britain - 30th June

Four runners are tackling the Three Peaks challenge on the weekend of 30th June.  This is an unsupported challenge, attempting to run up and down the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, Snowdon) within 24 hours, including travelling between the peaks.  If any one else is interested in joining them, you can find details on the website forum.

Schools' Cross-Country Relays - Help required
Rowney Warren, Wed 21 March., 3pm

Last year we had 300 children from 11 schools in the county and it gets more popular every year.  It does take quite a few volunteers to make it run smoothly and these are difficult to find on a Wednesday afternoon!  If you are able to help with course setting out, marshalling, recording or anything else, we can certainly use you.  Please let Ken Prior know ASAP.

From time to time on a Thursday evening Graham Bufton (Buffy) (Coach to the stars) from Bedford International Athletics Track will be down to give his expert coaching.

If anyone would like to organise an AWAY DAY in your village or town in 2007, or a run on your favourite training route, please let Gavin or one of the committee know (AWAY DAYS for 2007 are already planned for Grafham Waters, Royston Hills, Bedford Embankment and Parks, Old Warden).

    National Indoor Championships  NIA Birmingham
Alice was determined to get into the final and just missed out by 2/100ths of a second and was 7th quickest overall.  Over the banked 200 m track with the 1st lap in lanes and breaking for a 'free for all' on the last lap, Alice took the initiative and made sure she was at the front at the break - in fact Alice was still in the front with 80m to go.  Coming off the bend Alice was overtaken and the sapping cold took its toll as Alice tired and was just pipped for 3rd place, which would have given her a final slot.  A new PB and CR in the national championships is an achievement to be proud of - well-done Alice!!
     Alice Middleton  U20 W 400 m  Semi-Final  57.71 secs  5th  PB CR

Bedford Pole Vault Invitation  28 Jan
Matt Glass  U20 man  3.10 m  indoor CR

    Birmingham Games  11/12 Feb
In the girls 800m, Chelsea was looking for a fast race - and got one.  In the first 2 laps Chelsea ran in the pack and accelerated with 2 laps to go, to find her self on her own.  Chelsea pushed on and won by over 10 secs to the second athlete.
     U15 Girls  800m  Chelsea McKenzie  1st  2 mins 26.50 secs  PB CR
U20 Women  200m  Alice Middleton  5th  26.34 secs  PB CR
       400m  AliceMidleton  3rd  57.94 secs
