Bedfordshire Open Track & Field Meeting - 4 Apr
London Marathon 26th April
Ten runners from Biggleswade AC took part in this year's Flora London Marathon. Although the forecast earlier in the week had suggested cool temperatures with some light showers on race day (perfect for runners), the day turned out to be sunny and warm. This was perfect for the thousands of spectators that lined the route, but not so good for the runners as they battled their way around the sun-soaked streets of London.
First runner home for Biggleswade AC was "mr consistent" Ian Skerratt who once again defied his 58 years with a brilliant time of 3 hour 8 mins, which gave him 26th place in his age-group category, an extraordinary achievement in what is the biggest marathon race in the world. Next home was Derek Litchfield who finished in 3h 37m which smashed his previous best time (set 6 years ago) by over 30 minutes, and Derek raised a large amount of money for the Sue Ryder charity. First lady home for the club was Isobel Everest from Langford, running her very first marathon, and supporting the Sparks charity. Isobel was aiming for a sub 3h 30m time, and was well on target at halfway, but leg cramps from 17 miles meant she slowed to a finishing time of 3h 42m - which was still a fantastic debut and gives her automatic entry to next year's race.
London Marathon regular Andy Bruce, whose training had been interrupted by injury, was disappointed with his finishing time of 3h 54m, while Paula Dawson and Maria Tatchley had a great time running the 26.2 miles together and finishing in 4h 14m - a new PB for Paula who was raising cash for Breast Cancer. Just behind Paula and Maria, marathon debutant Hannah Street from Beeston battled her way around the course to finish in a very creditable 4h 19m despite feeling unwell on the day. Hannah has shown great dedication in her training and can look forward to faster times in the future. New mum Sarah Geeson-Orsgood ran a very solid race to finish in 4h 27m on limited training, and Julia Mackay from Sutton was just 5 minutes behind. Julia was disappointed with her time of 4h 32m, but this was still a huge PB by over 40 minutes and a great run in the warm conditions. Cat Marriott (running for her 1st claim club the RSPB staff association, and dressed as some kind of bird) finished alongside Julia in 4h 32m

Southern Mens League, Braintree, 2 May
Biggleswade AC were 4th of 4 with 73 points
Zac Morrison, Richard Bevan, Tom Worboys, Daniel Steel, David Brown travelled to Braintree with 3 officials (Ken Prior, Angela King and Kim Morrison) for the opening match of the Southern Mens league, the opposition was local rivals Bedford Hosts Harlow and Peterborough. As it was the first match in Div 3 N we were not sure how we would fare being promoted from Div 4 N!!
We were reasonably competitive in the sprints and having some good results even white washing our rivals Bedford in 100 200 400 and 400 m Hudles. We are still weak in the throws area where we lost points, but it was a good test and the magnificent 5 competed well. The next match is on 16th May at Newham.
