Track and Sports Centre Membership fees

Following further discussions with staff at Stevenage Leisure we have finally arrived at an agreement with them concerning Track and Sports Centre membership fees that we believe you will find fair and equitable.  Details of payment for both Regular and Casual Users have been put onto the Club website on the Membership & Fees page.

    Biggleswade Open, 30 Sep

At the Biggleswade Open we took close to nearly £1000, after expenses the total was £950-00.  Many thanks for everybody's efforts, this will help us in purchasing equipment and coaching aids.

The day was appreciated by many and thanks were passed back from atheletes and officials to thank everyone for a great meeting.  Some results especially in the field events were at national level, and they were part of the Biggleswade AC meetings.  Well done everyone!!!

Biggleswade AC runners' results are below.
Full results for track and field are on the Club website under Activities:Track and Field

Affiliation of Clubs & Athletes to England Athletics Ltd

As a Club we have been affiliated to England Athletics Ltd. since 1st April 2006 when that body became the National Association of our sport.  It is in effect the governing and delivery body for athletics in England.  For the first year affiliation fees were waived but now, in order to continue our affiliation, it will be necessary for clubs and athletes to pay into the scheme.

From 1st April 2007 to 31st March 2008 all clubs will have to pay a fixed fee of £50 and each competing athlete will have to pay £3.  The fees paid by athletes will rise to £5/annum from 1st April 2008.  Athletics Services, a central organisation governed by England Athletics Ltd and UK Athletics ,will work with clubs to administer the collection of fees.

As a club we have been far from happy with the way that the re-organisation of our sport has proceeded since the time of the Foster Report and we have made our feelings known through membership of the Association of GB Athletic Clubs.  However, in order to retain the necessary insurance for our coaches and members, we feel it appropriate at this time that we should remain affiliated to England Athletics Ltd.

It may be necessary to simply increase Club Membership subscriptions to cover the costs in which case an EGM may have to be convened, since membership fees for 2007 have already been agreed at the 2006 AGM.  We will keep you posted with respect to developments.

Annual Club Dinner and Presentation evening

Friday 19th January 2007 is the date for our annual Presentation Dinner - please keep this date free.  Stuart will soon be collecting names of those members and partners who wish to attend this popular event.  The venue will probably be the Green Man at Stanford once again, but we will confirm this within the next few weeks.

    Three Counties Cross Country race

Leighton Buzzard 10 Mile  24th September
This was also our Club's 10 Mile Championship race, and once again it was poorly attended by club members.  This does not, however, detract from Ian Skerratt's superb run of 65m 40s, to take the club championship shield.  Ian was closely followed by Martyn Cole who is getting faster with every race, and then Gav Elliott who was using the event as a warm up for the Loch Lomond marathon one week later.  No ladies made the start line, although the club Chairman was partly to blame for that.  Sorry Val!  There were 212 finishers
