Club Trip to Derbyshire
24 members and partners spent the weekend of 5th-8th October in the beautiful setting of Darwin Lakes, just north of Matlock on the edge of the Derbyshire Peak District. The cottages at Darwin Lakes were all superbly appointed, and the setting next to a small lake, bustling with birdlife, was very relaxing in the warm Autumnal sunshine.
On Saturday morning, three runners from Matlock AC arrived to take us on a 7 and 10 mile run across the moors and hills around Chatsworth House. This turned out to be an epic adventure as both the long and short running groups finished up running over 13 miles on some tough hills. They must measure the miles differently up there! But it was a superb run in beautiful scenery, so thanks to the two Steve's and Andy (plus Jan Forrester) from Matlock AC for the outing. Saturday afternoon was spent relaxing, walking, shopping and biking, and on Saturday evening we all went out for an excellent meal at the Temple Hotel in Matlock Bath.
On Sunday morning, the runners travelled down to Middleton Top (the start of the High Peak Trail) for a run and cycle along the trail. At least it was predominately flat this time, but the scenery was just as stunning in the sunshine, and a few runners still had the energy for another 12-14 mile run. On Sunday evening a BBQ was organised (thanks Pat) and everyone tucked into some excellent food and the last few pints of beer from the barrel of "Pieces of Eight" (thanks again Pat!)
Many thanks to everyone who came on the trip and contributed to such a successful club weekend. You are all great company. We'll have to do it again sometime!
