    Tesco Vouchers

Tescos are now giving out vouchers for schools and sports clubs - it's like "Computers for Schools" but for sports equipment.  Biggleswade Athletic Club are now registered to collect these vouchers for sports equipment.  If you shop at Tescos and you would like to help Biggleswade Athletic Club please say "yes" to the vouchers when they offer them to you, and pass them on to Gavin so he can gather them all together.  More vouchers means more free sports equipment.

    BE SAFE, BE SEEN

We are repeating this item from last month - we'ld rather bore you than bury you
Please wear fluorescent bibs or reflective clothing so you can easily be spotted by other road users on club nights (or whenever else you run in twilight or darkness).  They are not very restrictive and could save your life, and can be purchased cheaply at all good running shops.

"Don't be daft in the dark, be bright and light"

Your editor can tell you from personal experience as a driver how difficult it can be to see somebody in time, even under street lights - you are less visible than you think.

    Club Championship Races

This year's 10 mile and Half Marathon Club Championship races will be as follows:
10 Mile    Sun 4 Dec    Nene Valley 10 at Peterborough
a change from the planned race
Half Marathon    Sun 11 Dec    Beds Harriers Half Marathon at Wootton

Three Peaks Fell Race - April 2006

If you are interested in running this race next April, check out the Biggleswade AC website Forum.  To help you meet the entry criteria (ie you must have completed two "B" class Fell races in the last three years) we have identified two suitable races.  These are:
Nov 5th  Shepherds Skyline (Todmorden)  6m/1150ft
Nov 20th  Boundary Stone Blast (High Peak)  6m/850ft
Contact Nigel if you are interested in running either or both of the above.

    Timekeepers and judges course

There will be a course on 22nd October for County timekeepers and track judges at Sandy, from 11am until approx 3 pm.  Any club member is welcome.  The electronic timing equipment will be installed on that day.

Audit of Club Processes and Clubmark Accreditation

One of our members, Giles Keen, agreed some time ago to undertake an audit of the way that the club operates, with particular reference to our Clubmark Accreditation.  Giles has nearly finished the task and has spent many hours in assessing the way that the club is run.  He has spoken to numerous people and has produced a very comprehensive report which is shortly to be reviewed by the Committee.

It is already clear from his document that there are a number of areas where we can carry out improvements to our procedures and processes.  On behalf of the Club, the Committee would like to thank Giles very much for all the time and effort that he has put into the task, and the professional way in which he has conducted proceedings.

English Schools' Combined Events , Southampton, 17 Sep

Jorden 'Dean Macey' Best represented Bedfordshire and Luton Schools.

After the first event Jorden produced a PB and CR for the 80 m hurdles with 11.86 secs and was in 5th place.  Shot was another PB with 11.14 m and still in contention with the leaders.  Long Jump was average 5.17 m and dropped Jorden down to 10th. High Jump and another strong event for Jorden with another PB and CR with 1.77 m, back to 6th.

The final event the 800 m is not a favourite, but the same for all of the 42 athletes in the national final.  Jorden was not on top form with this but was still able to produce a massive points tally of 2,501 point and improvement of over 200 points for the club record and we are waiting confirmation as to whether this a a new county record.  Jorden finished 18th and is now officially recognised as top 20 in the UK.  Well done Jorden.
