    Three Counties, Shuttleworth, 11 Nov

We (Biggleswade Athletic Club) are hosting this race at Old Warden and we will need quite a few helpers.  We are expecting about three hundred runners.

Everybody who normally runs should still be able to run but may be required to help before or after the race, we will also need help from those not running, partners husbands wives etc. to assist during the race.

    We will need help with:
      - Car parking
      - Catering(serving teas and coffees)
      - Laying out the course
      - Marshalling
      - Clearing up
Please let Neil know if you are available.

    Club Championship Races

    5K Championship
This year we have decided to add a 5K championship to the existing 10k, 10 mile and Half Marathon championship races.  To qualify for the 5K championship you must run in one of the three 5K races staged by Fairlands Valley Spartans (Stevenage).  The races all take place on a Wednesday evening at 7:45pm, on Wed 14th Nov, Wed 28th Nov, Wed 12th Dec.  Your best time in any of the three races will be used to work out the 5k club champions, based on age-graded times.  These races fill up fast, so enter early to avoid disappointment.  There are unlikely to be any entries on the day.

    Half Marathon Championship
Don't forget that the Club's Half Marathon Championship race is the Beds Harriers Wootton Half Marathon on Sunday 9th December.

    Club Trip to Derbyshire

24 members and partners will be setting off for accommodation at Darwin Lakes near Matlock in Derbyshire on Friday 5th October, for a long weekend of training, walking, sightseeing, and relaxing.  Look out for the report in next month's newsletter.

10 Mile Club Championship  23 Sep
Nine Biggleswade AC runners took part in our 10 Mile Club Championship at the Leighton Buxzard 10 Mile race.  On a warm breezy day, about 300 runners set off on the undulating and scenic loop around villages to the south of Leighton Buzzard.  In a close finish, Vince Plosky just held off a fast finishing Richard Bevan to be first home for the club in a superb 65 minutes.  Not far behind was Debs Bryant in another excellent time. Well done to all who took part.  Club Champions for 2007, based on Age-Graded times, are Nigel Bush and Debs Bryant.

Trent Park 5K Handicap Series  Race 10, 29 Sep
Final Race of the year, anticlockwise route
Peter Howells' training had been severely limited for six weeks due to a continuing achilles injury.  His fitness had suffered as a result and he was only able to struggle round the course in 26.12 finishing 56 out of 69 giving him 14 points.  He secured a 3rd place trophy in the Guest Runners Competition with a final total of 426 for the year and finished 9th overall.

    East Midlands Grand Prix Series
Eight summer evening road races in which each runners finishing position is calculated by age category, aggregated and carried forward to the next race of the series.  Only the best five results are used to calculate an overall position after the final race.  Many Biggleswade Athletic Club runners took part in individual races but Vincent Plosky and Richard Bevan heroically travelled week after week to compete in the minimum five races needed to gain an overall score over the various distances.

Well done to all Biggleswade AC runners who took part in the Series.  Special congratulations must go to Vince who accumulated a total of 135 points which gave him a superb overall position of 22nd in the series and Rich who followed closely behind with 169 points earning him 27th place.  Biggleswade AC are very proud of the high level of commitment and effort given by these two athletes who consistently improved throughout the Series of races and in doing so gained many Personal Best times.
