Doug Anderson 5K Race

The evening of Wednesday 19th July saw a great turnout for the Doug Anderson 5K. Nearly 400 runners were present for the Bedford Harriers AC hosted race held at Bedford Park, and of those, 18 were Biggleswade AC competitors. This popular event not only incorporated the Beds AAA County 5K Championships, but was also the designated 5K Biggleswade AC Championships and thus provided added incentives to perform well. And the BAC runners didn't disappoint! There were some excellent times posted, with prizes to boot. First home for BAC was Emily Varley in a time of 19:12, achieving 3rd place in her age category as well as securing 3rd in the County Championships Female Open category. Emily also bagged the Female Biggleswade AC Championship trophy with an age grading of 79.91%. Connor Hawthorne also had a fantastic run, coming away with the Male Junior category race win as a result of his time of 22:15. Congratulations also to Ian Grimwood who won the Male Biggleswade AC Championship trophy by attaining an age grading of 70.78%.

For Biggleswade AC athletes, the various road running Male and Female Championship trophies (for 5K, 10K, 10 Mile and Half Marathon distances) are awarded based on highest age graded percentage. The percentage is determined using the WAVA method which considers age, gender and time achieved against the world record timings for the specified distance and respective age groupings and gender profile. Next BAC Championship race will be the 10 Miler - Leighton 10 - on 24th September.
