Last year 21 Biggleswade Athletic Club runners took on the challenge that is known as Race The Machine. Participating in either the Red Challenge or the Black Challenge, members were given a target time based on their age, gender and current fitness level then tasked with racing four distances (depending on the Challenge type) across the year. After each race the result was submitted to Race The Machine, which then responded accordingly to provide personalised target times for the successive races and points awarded depending on whether the target time had been beaten or the distance completed. Each runners’ points were collated to form a Race The Machine leaderboard, so you were not just competing against yourself but others too - helping to keep the motivation going.
For the Black Challenge, Shani Giddings came top for BAC with 9.5 points as well as placing a fantastic 2nd on the overall RTM leaderboard. Bev Strong topped the Red Challenge for the Club with 6 points. There were also top 10 leaderboard placings for Ricky Byrne, Louise Hatfield-Pike and Lynn Hill – an outstanding result. A huge well done to all who participated and a big thank you to Maria Merridan who coordinated Biggleswade Athletic Club’s entry. Bring on the 2024 Challenges!
