BAC notches up a notable ‘athlete of the match’ double at SAL meeting

Alex Ingham and Hannah Brunning achieved a great double success competing for the Biggleswade team, now made up entirely of BAC athletes, at this season’s opening Southern Athletics League (SAL) Division 3 East meeting.

Alex was named ‘Man of the Match’** with 833 points and Hannah ‘Woman of the Match’ with 745 points at the meeting held in the Bedford International Athletic Stadium on Saturday May 17. Another highlight was BAC first year U-20 athlete George Hardy winning the men’s 400m event with a new PB and moving ever closer to going under 50 seconds.

Man of the Match Alex won the men’s javelin with a SB throw of 58.12m, close to his PB of 58.89m, and also competed in the shot put, hammer and javelin.

Woman of the Match Hannah won the women’s discus with an SB throw of 34.70m; won the B event in the women’s shot put with a throw of 8.41m, which was also the second longest throw in the overall competition behind Orlagh Brunning (who won the event with 8.62m); and competed in the hammer, javelin and 100m.

George won the men’s 400m A race with a new PB of 50.9 to move up to number 6 in the Power of 10 East region rankings. Henry Knox, the only U-17 scorer in the event, nearly made it a BAC win double for that event when he finished narrowly second in the B race with a time of 53.8.

Other notable BAC performances for the Biggleswade team included Orlagh winning the women’s high jump with a clearance of 1.40m; Donncha Blake winning the men’s pole vault with a clearance of 4.20m and the discus with a PB of 33.22m; and Oran Blake achieving PBs in the men’s discus (26.39m) and 5k hammer throw (42.98m).

Overall, Biggleswade finished 5th of the eight teams in their division with a total of 217 points, thanks to a combination of some great individual performances and the willingness of team members to multi-event. The other teams in that league are COBRA (combined Colchester Harriers and Braintree), Bedford, West Norfolk, West Suffolk, Ryston, Southend and Huntingdonshire.

Biggleswade Team: Richard Bevan, Donncha Blake, Oran Blake, Hannah Brunning, Orlagh Brunning, Noah Buckley, George Hardy, Alex Ingham, Marcus Ingham, Sandra Ingham, Ryan Kennerley, Henry Knox, Fenya Treece.
