Cross-country season kicks off

As Autumn arrives so does the start of cross-country season for Biggleswade AC runners. The Club participates in two cross-country leagues, the Chiltern League and the Three Counties League. The first of the Leagues’ races was a Chiltern one on 14th October at Keysoe Equestrian Centre near Bedford in which the Biggleswade AC Juniors were competing. A huge well done to Austin Milner for coming 7th in the Under 13 Boys category and to Lauren Bone who finished 8th in the Under 13 Girls category.

Full results can be found at Chiltern Cross Country League.

Next up was the BAC Seniors for the Three Counties on 29th October at Irchester Country Park, Wellingborough. This was a change of location after many years at Croyland Park, and thus no infamous brook crossing this time (to the disappointment of some, relief to others!) Just under 500 runners turned out from across 14 clubs to run the 5 mile, 2 lap parkland course. Although being one of the smaller competing clubs, Biggleswade AC still secured a top 30 male and a top 20 female placing - achieved by Rob Morgan and Nicky Upperton, respectively. In addition, a special mention for Michael Ashiotis, Martha Ford, Stuart Highland, Matt Smith and Jackie Warren who made their cross-country debuts for BAC. A great start to the season all!

Cross-country running is not only a great way to improve strength, stamina, and speed, but participating in the Leagues also provides the opportunity be part of a fantastic team event. Crucially, the focus is on final position rather than finishing time, so everyone running can contribute to the overall team ranking with their position score. And with the Three Counties League, there is a social aspect too, with all runners receiving and enjoying hot drinks, sandwiches and cake afterwards as a reward for their efforts!

Next up:

Chiltern XC - Teardrop Lakes, Milton Keynes on Saturday 11th November.

Three Counties XC – Delapre Park, Northampton on Sunday 26th November.
