This was another year for Standalone 10k acting as Biggleswade AC's 10k Club Championship*, ensuring a solid turnout of blue and yellows at the weekend. Over 20 Biggleswade AC runners took to the start line on Wilbury Road, just by race HQ at Standalone Farm to take on the rolling course around Letchworth. Despite the gradual inclines, the race can provide PB potential with its fast downhill to the finish and together with cool, dry conditions meant for good results from Team BAC on Sunday. One to indeed score a PB was Rosanna Bartlett with her time of 40:56, generating a massive 75.6% WAVA age grading as well as bagging first prize in her age category. Rosanna was followed closely behind by Emily Varley who only two weeks before had participated in the Brutal Mawr (Full) extreme triathlon, coming in at 41:28. And for the men, Nicholas Sinclair was first back for BAC in a time of 37:49 with Kishan Modi second in 39:07. Andy Hedley and Jennie Day also had a great race and were pleased with their times of 55:55 and 55:14, respectively. They were especially chuffed to have beaten Eastenders actor and Strictly Come Dancing star, Jake Wood (Max Branning) who kindly posed for a selfie with them afterwards.
*The winners of the Club Championship male and female race trophies will be announced and presented at the annual Biggleswade AC Seniors awards evening, usually hosted around February/March time. These are awarded based on the highest age grading in percentage terms compared with world record performances relative to the runner's age and gender.
