Last Sunday saw the last of the five Three Counties Cross Country League races take place in Wing, near Leighton Buzzard. Guaranteed to be a mud-fest, the course incorporated multiple laps of fields where several foot deep puddles and rutted cattle tracks had to be negotiated by runners. Unlike the previous League race, there was more opportunity to jostle for position from the start and throughout the smaller first lap and then the three larger course laps. Vying for a good finish position was Nicky Upperton, who having had a tremendous return to cross country this season for Biggleswade AC after a year out, was on track to secure a League medal for the overall female award. And a good finish Nicky achieved indeed, with a 3rd female placing Nicky was able to maintain her 2nd female overall position to be awarded silver when the results were announced. This was a fantastic achievement for Nicky and the Club, and builds on her age category win from the 2023/24 season. Another member of the Biggleswade AC cross country team to have a successful League outing was Nick Sinclair, who achieved his highest placing to date to come in 18th amongst a strong male field and some 300+ runners. Commendations also go to Sam Wall and Jake Genever who both made their cross country debuts for Biggleswade AC. Over the course of four out of five races, Sam's finish positions meant a top 40 placing in the Open Male category. And for Jake going from 244th at the beginning of the season to 113th in the final race showcased the gains he has made through his commitment to training and competing since joining the Club. In terms of team League results, Biggleswade AC women came 6th in this final race and 9th position in the League. The Biggleswade AC men didn't fair as well unfortunately due to being short on numbers and so ended up in last place, but with a final League position of 13th. A special mention must go to Richard Hill who was unable to run due to injury but still walked the course on Sunday and therefore lessened the blow slightly with forfeiting scores. Overall, Biggleswade AC finished 13th in the League for the 2025/26 season. Congratulations to all Biggleswade AC runners who ran - bring on next season!
