UK CAU – Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships 2024

Five BAC Juniors achieved the notable distinction of running for Bedfordshire in the UK Counties Athletic Union – Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships 2024 at Wollaton Park, Nottingham, on Saturday March 9.

The weather and underfoot conditions were pretty much perfect for XC racing although the courses were surprisingly hilly and challenging. Fields of around 300 runners in each of the three races involving BAC Juniors highlighted the national importance of the event, with competitors from Scotland and Wales as well as all over England taking part.

The best BAC Juniors performance this year came from Lauren Bone who finished 164th in the U-13 Girls race – a huge step up from her 283rd position in the comparable 2023 race.

In the U-13 Boys race, Austin Milner also put in a very good performance as part of an eight-man Bedfordshire team to finish 234th.

BAC’s biggest representation was in the U-15 Boys race where the club provided three of the eight-strong Bedfordshire team. Oliver Weddell led the way for the club in 217th place, followed by Sidney Hammond in 250th and Henry Knox in 283rd.

A huge ‘well done’ to all five BAC runners on a notable achievement for each of them individually and for representing the club so well at national cross-country level.
