Another Scorcher for Phoenix 5

Following its successful launch last year runners once again took to the paths around Stevenage for the Phoenix 5 on Sunday 11th May, hosted by the Stevenage Phoenix Running Club. It was another scorcher as like last year, but some relief could be found in the shadier parts of the 5-mile route through the wooded sections and underpasses. Starting and finishing in Shephalbury Park the course follows tarmacked paths with the benefit of no road crossings to negotiate and offers PB potential. For Biggleswade Athletic Club, seven Seniors were racing on the day and put in a tremendous effort considering the hot weather. First home for BAC was Richard Hill who ran 36:53, a great time and having run the London Marathon only a couple of weeks previously. Jennie Day bettered her time on 2024 by nearly 2 minutes with 43:50, setting a Club record for her age category over this distance (subject to verification). Andrew Hedley followed with 44:15, then Vicky Berry in 55:44 and Lynn Hill in 57:26, with Rachel Fairhurst and Shani Giddings coming in close together with 1:02:15 and 1:02:41, respectively.
