Four BAC juniors qualify for Schools County XC Championships
Four Biggleswade AC juniors who competed in this month’s North/Mid Bedfordshire Schools District Cross Country Championships ran well enough to qualify for the upcoming Schools County XC Championships.
BAC athletes who are known to have qualified for selection to run for Mid Bedfordshire in the county championships early next month as a result of their performances in the district races (and there may be more we haven’t been told about) are:
● Sidney Hammond, who finished 1st in the Intermediate Boys category and 4th overall in a combined Intermediate/Seniors (School Years 10-13) race. The race actually panned out a bit strangely as a few of the other runners appeared to only do just enough to qualify for the county championships, probably because they were also due to run in the SEAA Main XC Championships four days later. Even so, it was still a great run from Sid − and a win is a win!
● Ben Morris, a Year 6 runner, who also produced a strong run to finish 2nd overall in a combined Years 6/7 race over a muddy and at times tricky 3.1 kilometre course – a great follow-up to his U11B individual and team gold medal wins at the Bedfordshire AAA County XC Championships earlier this month.
● Lauren Bone, 4th in the Intermediate Girls race (Years 10/11); and Ross Bone, 12th in the Junior Boys race (Years 8/9).
The district XC championships were held at the usual venue, Sharnbrook Academy, on Tuesday, January 20. The Bedfordshire & Luton Schools County XC Championships will also be held at their usual venue, Ampthill Park, on Wednesday February 4.
