Nathania and Sid set new club records at SEAA Indoor Championships

A small squad of Biggleswade AC juniors achieved three new club records, a notable event final and a PB during the South of England Athletic Association 2026 Indoor U13/U15/U17 Championships held at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre over the weekend of January 10/11.

Nathania Lewis, competing in her first championships as an U15G athlete, set new club indoor records in both the 60m and the 200m, and made the final of the latter. Sidney Hammond set a new club U17M indoor 800m record when finishing second in his heat and only narrowly missed out on making the final. Liya Adeyemi, who was competing in her first championships, set a PB in the U13G 60m.

Nathania’s most notable performances came in the U15G 200m on the Sunday where she twice set a new club indoor record for that event and reached the final. She began by finishing 2nd in her heat to secure automatic qualification for the semi-finals in a time of 26.81 (beating the club’s previous indoor 200m record of 28.51 set in Birmingham 25 years ago!). She followed that up by finishing 2nd in one of the four semi-finals in 26.52, another new club record, to go through to the final as one of the two fastest non-automatic qualifiers. Following two long days of competition, she had to settle for 6th place in the final in a time of 27.32, still a great achievement for a first championship in a new age group.

The previous day, Nathania twice set a new club record for the U15G 60m. She finished 3rd in her heat of that event in a new record time of 8.24 to go through to the semi-finals as one of the fastest non-automatic qualifiers. She then shaved a further 0.02 seconds off that time in her semi-final, where she finished 6th, to set another new record of 8.22.

Sid produced a great run in his heat of the U17M 800m on the Sunday only his third ever indoor race to finish a strong 2nd in a good indoor time of 2:07.66. Frustratingly, though, with only the winner of each of the five heats plus a single fastest non-automatic qualifier going through to the six-man final, he narrowly missed out on progressing. The consolation was that his time was a new club indoor record for the U17M 800m, beating the previous record of just under 2:13 set at the same venue 12 years ago. Sid now holds that age group club indoor titles for both the 800m and 1500m, having set the latter last month.

Liya set a PB of 9.00 in her heat of the U13G 60m event on the Saturday to finish fourth of the eight runners and only 0.09 secs off qualifying to go through to the next round.

A fourth BAC athlete at the SEAA indoor championships, Ariana Lewis, competed in two U13G events on the Saturday. She was not at her best in the long jump, where she finished 17th with a jump of 3.38m, but bounced back in the 60m to produce a time which was only 0.01 secs off her recent PB when finishing 5th in her heat in a time of 9.17.
